Would I be too far off topic here to ask another Ertel history question?

Tony ERTEL, who lived in the Alsace area, fought in the German army with the artillery during WWI in Belgium. I think he joined the army at Koblence. His son has tried to find the military records of the artillery corps, but has been told that they burned during WWII bombings. He is not sure if this is true. Might they be in Liepzich along the Polish Germany border? Or would they be somewhere else?

His son wrote:
"Oui, Merci infiniment pour votre démarche pour trouver les dossier de mon père Tony Ertel WWI artillery front de Belgique. Il a fait son service à Koblence. Les archives de l'artillery seraient à Liepzich frontière Allemagne Polonais? On m'avait répondu qu'elles avaient brûlées durant la WWII suite aux bombardements, je pense que ce n'est pas vraie."
